I cannot find the manual anywhere for my Kenwood VR-6050, and I know
nothing of home theater systems... please help if you know about this
receiver.

I want to get a subwoofer and I do not really know what I need to look for,
I keep trying to find a manual online but am having no luck, I find info
regarding my Receiver as being a 5x100 watt. Does that include the sub? can
my sub handle 100watts? I have what looks to me like, an A/V out connector
that is black and says Subwoofer and another that says Surround Back. all
have a white circle around it saying Preout. I borrowed my Parents Sub when
they were in the process of moving just to use it. I couldn't hook it up, it
had connectors that were for the normal Black and Red speaker inputs while
mine was for this A/V connector. how do I hook a sub up to this receiver?
what is surround back? is that another connector for a sub, will this help
in improving my system?
any advice on what sub I should get for this system? I currently have a 4
Klipsch satellite speakers and a 1 center channel. I am using the 2 Klipsch
for usually just stereo.

Thanks

It sounds like your parents' subwoofer is a passive (non-amplified
subwoofer. To connect it, take the front left and right speake
outputs and connect them to the input terminals on the subwoofer, the
connect the left and right speakers to the output terminals of th
subwoofer. If you can find your way into the setup menu for th
receiver, select "large" for the size of the left and right speakers.
This configuration requires the receiver's amplifiers to drive th
subwoofer and that will consume a lot of its energy. You shoul
consider buying a powered subwoofer that will, in fact, connect via a
RCA patch cord from the subwoofer output on the back of the receiver.
The sub's built-in amplifier will then drive the bass notes, easing th
load on the Kenwood considerably.

BTW, go to kenwoodusa.com, click on 'support' for home and car, the
'instruction manuals'-- type in the model number in the box and you'l
be able to download your owner's manual there for free

This Kenwood wants a powered Subwoofer attached. The energy demands of
very low frequency sound reproduction are extreme. Start shopping at
Tweeter, Best Buy, Circuit City and the like to find a powered subwoofer
that meets your listening tastes and your budget.

Another pair of Klipsch satellite speakers will work ok for the rear
surround speakers. Lots of choices there as the amount of energy
directed to the rear speakers is low in most movie sound tracks.

Keep in mind that 5.1 sound is MOSTLY for movies. Very little music is
available in 5.1 mode then only if you purchase a DVD-A player or a SACD
player and get discs that are released in these specific formats. A
SACD disc is generally not readable in a DVD-A player and vice versa.
